Areas of Healing and My Approach

My Approach

My approach is integrative as it weaves together elements of different therapies in an effort to meet you uniquely where you’re at.

Since the outset of my career, I’ve always felt that Humanistic Therapy is a great way to be with a client as it emphasizes bringing authenticity and genuineness to the “room” so as to promote your own comfort in being fully yourself. One of the first things I learned about being a therapist is to be a human first, a therapist second. In this way, we will be able to delve deeper into who you have been, who you are, and who you want to be.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is a great way to do things in therapy. You will learn how your thoughts, feelings, behaviors are connected to one another. We may even delve into where these thought patterns originated from, how to unlearn the unhealthier schemas, and learning more adaptive, fulfilling ones.

Existential Therapy is a great way to think in therapy. As folx navigate themselves in their therapy journey, we often find ourselves considering the meaning (or meaninglessness of life. In therapy, we have the ability to make and assign meaning to our lives and find fulfillment where there may not have been any before.

Finally, I’ve joined the movement to DECOLONIZE therapy. While I am immensely grateful for my education and training, it has been through a Western lens. As it is, the field of therapy is largely based on Western and Eurocentric observation, study, and values. Western Therapy places a heavy emphasis on the individual, symptoms and pathology, and the medical model. Because of this, some of the most marginalized groups have not experienced healing in a way that is actually effective or conducive for them. In my practice, I will center you and your culture, your values, and your community. We may examine how colonialism, immigration, acculturation, race/racism has impacted you and your life. We may explore alternative paths to healing, if appropriate, including practices that are ancestrally rooted. We may explore activism and community engagement as forms of healing. Most importantly, we will honor your roots and past and look to them as a road map to navigate the future in a way that breaks down intergenerational patterns and promotes generational emotional wealth and well-being.
